Ch-1 Computer System Overview
Introduction – Computer System Overview
A computer system is an electronic device that takes input, processes it, stores data, and gives output. It works with both hardware and software to perform different tasks efficiently.
A computer system mainly has the following components:
Input Unit: Devices like keyboard and mouse that are used to give data or instructions to the computer.
Central Processing Unit (CPU): This is the brain of the computer. It processes the data. The CPU has two parts:
ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit): It performs all arithmetic and logical operations.
CU (Control Unit): It controls and coordinates all parts of the computer.
Memory Unit: It stores data temporarily or permanently. It includes:
Primary Memory (RAM, ROM)
Secondary Storage (Hard Disk, SSD, etc.)
Output Unit: Devices like monitors and printers that display or provide the result of processed data.
Working of a Computer System
The computer system follows the IPO cycle:
Input → Process → Output
