What is Attitude? Explain Different Components of Attitude
Q.3 What is Attitude? Explain Different Components of Attitude
Solution :-Â
Attitude refers to an individual’s psychological tendency to evaluate a particular entity, person, situation, or idea positively or negatively.
It represents a learned predisposition that influences how a person feels, thinks, and behaves in specific contexts.
Attitudes are shaped by personal experiences, cultural influences, and social interactions, and they play a significant role in guiding behavior and decision-making.
Components of Attitude
Attitude consists of three interrelated components, often referred to as the ABC model of attitude:
1. Affective Component (Feelings) :-Â
The affective component reflects a person’s emotional response or feelings toward an object, person, or situation.
It determines whether someone likes or dislikes something and involves emotions such as happiness, anger, fear, or satisfaction.
Example:
Feeling happy when receiving praise from a colleague (positive attitude).
Feeling annoyed about waiting in long lines (negative attitude).
2. Behavioral Component (Actions) :-Â
The behavioral component refers to the way an individual acts or behaves toward an object or situation based on their attitude.
It represents the intention or actual response influenced by their feelings and beliefs.
Example:
Avoiding unhealthy food because of a negative attitude toward its effects on health.
Volunteering at a charity event due to a positive attitude toward helping others.
3. Cognitive Component (Beliefs) :-Â
The cognitive component involves an individual’s beliefs, thoughts, or knowledge about an object, person, or situation.
These beliefs are formed based on information and experiences and contribute to shaping overall attitudes.
Example:
Believing that exercising daily improves health (positive belief).
Believing that a product is of low quality based on past experiences (negative belief).
