Functions of Device Management

1. Device Detection and Configuration

  • The OS automatically detects connected hardware devices when the system starts.
  • It configures the necessary drivers to ensure the device functions properly.
  • Plug-and-play (PnP) technology allows the OS to detect and install drivers for new devices automatically.

2. Device Communication and Control

  • The OS acts as an intermediary between the hardware and software, ensuring proper communication.
  • It sends input/output (I/O) requests to the respective device drivers, which translate them into commands the hardware can understand.
  • The OS handles data transfer between the CPU and external devices efficiently.

3. Device Scheduling and Allocation
